Paddle

Paddle acts as the merchant of record, which means it sells to your customer and handles sales tax, VAT and invoicing worldwide. Connect it and funnel checkouts run through Paddle instead of a payment processor you have to tax-register for yourself.

Paddle

Merchant of record — sales tax handled for you

Takes payments

Why connect Paddle

The argument, not the feature list.

Global tax is not your problem

As merchant of record, Paddle registers, collects and remits sales tax and VAT in the jurisdictions you sell into. For a small team selling a subscription in forty countries, this is the difference between shipping and hiring an accountant.

Compliance and invoicing included

Invoices, refunds and chargebacks are handled on Paddle’s merchant account rather than yours, which also means disputes do not land against your own processing history.

Same funnel, same catalog

Paddle is a store like any other: prices bind to your catalog, purchases fan out to your integrations, and reporting treats a Paddle subscription exactly like a Stripe one.

How it works

What moves, and in which direction.

  1. 01Connect your Paddle account from store settings.
  2. 02Funnel prices bind to Paddle prices, so the checkout charges what your catalog declares.
  3. 03Paddle notifications flow back for renewals, refunds and disputes.
  4. 04Purchases fan out to your other connected integrations as events.

What gets sent

Paddle is where the charge happens rather than a destination we forward events to. Completed purchases fan out to your other connected integrations.

What you need

Have these on hand and setup takes a couple of minutes in the dashboard.

  • 01A Paddle account with API access, connected from store settings
  • 02Paddle’s own product approval, which is a prerequisite on their side

Getting these from Paddle. Our own setup steps live in the docs.

Worth knowing

Things that will otherwise surprise you later.

  • Paddle has no raw card field of its own, so wallet-style inline surfaces are not available the way they are on Stripe.
  • Paddle cannot stack a second concurrent subscription, so a subscription-on-top-of-subscription upsell is not possible. Upgrades and one-time upsells are.
